Dorothea E. H. Laster is the attorney founder of
Hopkins-Laster Law Office. Ms. Laster
has been licensed to practice law in Texas by the Texas Supreme Court since
1991. She is also licensed to practice
before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, and before
the U.S. Supreme Court.
Ms. Laster’s primary area of practice is Family Law. Ms. Laster represents litigants in adoption,
custody, divorce, and child support cases and appeals. Ms. Laster is passionate about gender-blind,
color-blind access to justice in the Family Courts. In 1993, Ms. Laster was awarded an
outstanding pro bono service award from Legal Services of North Texas for
volunteer service in Family Law cases. Ms.
Laster volunteered Fathers for Equal Rights from approximately 2004-2014, where
she advised self-represented Family Law litigants. Ms. Laster has been a regular Family Law
contributor on www.AVVO.com since 2014.
Ms. Laster’s legal career has included trying federal
employment discrimination cases in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern,
Northern and Southern Districts of Texas, and in representing parties in
wrongful death, medical malpractice, personal injury, insurance defense, fraudulent
transfer act, breach of contract and collections suits.
In 1988, Ms. Laster earned a Bachelor’s of Science in
Political Science from the University of Nebraska. Ms. Laster was a Patricia Harris Fellowship
recipient in Law School, and in 1991, earned her Juris Doctorate, with
Distinction, from the University of Nebraska-College of Law. Dorothea earned an LL.M. (Advanced Law
Decree) in International Law from the University of Notre Dame’s London,
England Campus, graduating cum laude. In
